Hi, My oil boiler won't fire Hi, My oil boiler won't fire up. Lock out light is on. Have checked for fuel, changed nozzle, all to no avail. The burner goes through the motions of starting but just lock's out. Hi, just had delivery of new oil and now boiler won't light.Hi, Does the burner light then go out immediately or does it fail to light at all?Ok, oil is not as easy to deal with as gas. Is the boiler indoors or in an out house etc. We need to check two things, one that a mist off oil is spraying from the nozzle and that a good spark is at the nozzle. The best way to do this is part is remove the burner from the boiler so that you can see the required items and fire it up (it may now fire as you have altered the air ratio so be aware). Now you will either see and hear a spark but no oil, or oil and no spark then you will know which one to deal with. If it fires, do not be concerned. The flame might seem loud and big but it will go up the flue, but if it does fire then the damper will need adjusting. You will be able to get it going like this, but final adjustment will need to be done by an oil man as you will be in danger of sooting the boiler up and that you do not want.Yes exactly that, I like the flower pot. Of course there are other ways like remove the nozzle, hold a container in front to collect the oil to check for spark, if OK then unplug the spark electrodes, replace the nozzle and test with container in front for good fuel atomization. I have regularly fired a burner in the open (not in a bathroom) with no ill effects but I have had a lot of experience (forgot most of it) but there you go.Yes, like any ignition system, if you have spark, fuel/air at the correct ratio then it will fire. I have had many oil units that will fire out of the combustion chamber, but will not when in, and it can be a combination of pressure/air ratio, but if your pump has not been altered?? Just thought of another problem some burners suffer, check that the fan spins easily and continues for a few seconds after as some suffer bearing problems which not only slows the fan but slows the pump.Remove the pump and look for the small drive coupling between the fan motor and pump, they break here so no drive to pump.Ok, you have fuel to the pump, but not to the nozzle pipe. Does look as though the pump has failed, but before you get a new one pull it apart and look for a pressure relief valve, as your old nozzle filter was dirty. Good chance that the PRV was opening and it may have got some debris holding it open, will give same symptoms as failed pump.Ok long time since I stripped a pump, so been out to the shed to find one and strip it down. As I thought, unless something has broken or worn there is not a lot to go wrong, I had forgotten the solenoid valve. Worth checking that it is getting power. They operate via a small steel ball. I would give the pump a lot more attention before I bought a new one.No fuse as far as I am aware, but if the photo cell is open circuit I do not think the solenoid will get power. If you have a meter it will be around 1 meg ohm dark but the important thing is a reading that varies with light, they also suffer poor connections if it is the plug in variety.Did you check the photo cell, give it and the contacts a good clean, unlikely the solenoid coil has gone.Well done, in view of the fact that the nozzle filter was dirty, it will be as well to drain the sludge cock on the oil tank (the one on the opposite end to the outlet) and renew the tank filter as well, as if dirt has got to the nozzle then it must have passed through the pump, not good for the new one.Fixing a Boiler that won't start - YouTubehttps:// 03, 2016· System 2000 Boiler won't start how to reset computer on boiler.
